Not too many years ago someone with a disease of the eye was told that nothing could be done and they would go blind. With the development of the Laser today this eye surgery is an everyday occurance. Other areas of the medical profession have also used this technique. It cuts through tissue easily without causing excessive bleeding or tearing making the surgery much safer and easier. Today the Laser has advanced into every area of our daily lives.

The Laser Flashlight Stimulated Emission, invented by Albert Einstein, is the basis of the Laser. Over the years a large number of inventors worked on his theory until it is now part of almost every piece of technical equipment, including the computer. Every household has something that contains a Laser even though they may not be aware of it.

Uses of the Laser in the workplace are in full swing. From police officers measuring the speed of a car to the carpenter using it to measure levels there is no limit. One of the most well known uses is the attachment to a soldier’s gun so he or she can accurately line up a target. Very few occupations are in existence where this device is not used in some manner.

Executives in offices have found that laser printers are excellent for turning out professional looking papers. People giving presentations often use a laser beam to point out parts of a chart to demonstrate parts of their lecture. One of the advancements in the current market are flashlights which use this technique and only need three AAA batteries which last many more hours than the old kind.

This type flashlight was tested and compared to a regular one for a number of days. It was found that the old flashlight batteries constantly had to be replaced, while the laser was able to keep its light with the small AAA batteries with no problems. For peace of mind it is important that the homeowner have a source of light on hand that is dependable during any catastrophe such as the electricity being unavailable for a long length of time and this seems to fill the bill.

Currently there are companies on the Internet who offer instructions for converting a regular flashlight into a Laser one. This seems rather complicated and might be difficult for a person other than a technician to attempt. There have been mixed reviews on the success of individual’s endeavors.

LASER is an abbreviation for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. That is a mouthful of words for the everyday person. Terms such as parallel beams, polarization, monochromatic and the like are like a foreign language. Fortunately, knowledge of these words is not necessary when one only has to deal with their application to make things work much better or enjoy improved things.
