How To Plan A Wedding Registry

by ralphg on May 12, 2010

A wedding registry may seem like the ultimate shopping wish list, and in a way it is. This is a great way to let your guests know what you need or want to start your new life with. A registry is also a good way to track who bought what for you, sometimes cards go missing with the shuffling of gifts from place to place.

Your friends and family have been waiting for this for a long time, so they may want to start shopping early. This means that you will begin your registry as soon as possible. If you have scheduled a wedding shower or an engagement party, make sure you have your registry complete a month ahead of time.

If you want to go back and change something once the list has been complete, this is also possible. You may have thought you would be making a guest room for your nieces and wanted to include a twin loft bed, but decided against it. You may have decided to go with two separate beds. Whatever the case may be, you can edit your registry when you find that you no longer need or want a particular item.

Even though it is easy to pick your items and create your own registry online, it is a good idea to actually see the items in person. This means get to the store and check the item out so you can see what it looks and feels like. Make sure to register for the necessities like linens, a stainless steel rice cooker and other house ware items. You may want to register for a few special items as well.

Try to stick to only one or two stores when preparing a registry. It can become tiresome when you have to manage several registries when you have other wedding details to take care of. You can choose a major department store for your registry. This will give you a wide variety of options to choose from. A loft bed, linens, kitchenware, and other furniture are all usually available at these big department stores.

If you want something a little more specialized you can also choose a novelty shop in addition to the department store. This will help you get the special items you want. However, registering at such a place may not be so easy. Some shops do not even have a registry program, but if you ask to create one, you can probably work something out.

If you do not need anything for your house, but feel strange asking for money, there is help! There are websites that allow your guests to help pay for your honeymoon, or save up for a down payment on a home. Whatever your ultimate objective may be, there is probably a registry or online programs for people who are about to wed, in order to help you get there.
